About PinoyLeaks

Short History PinoyLeaks was first conceptualized back in 2004. However, almost nobody understood the concept or believed that leaking documents online could have an impact. Then, in 2010, Wikileaks became a worldwide phenomenon, and Filipinos are now familiar with the concept of exposing corruption by means of leaking data on the web.

PinoyLeaks is a means of exposing corruption and other wrongdoing in government. Concerned citizens with access to evidence of corruption can upload the data to our server securely and anonymously, without fear of retaliation.

PinoyLeaks is non-profit organization funded by volunteers and anonymous donors. Please contribute a donation to help us carry out our mission of improving the future of the country.

Unlike Wikileaks, the mission of PinoyLeaks is not to expose classified information for the sake of exposing classified information. Our mission is limited to exposing wrongdoing and corruption in the Philippines.

PinoyLeaks is an independent organization and is not affiliated with Wikileaks nor the government nor any other organization. We would like to emphasize that while we are riding in Wikileaks' slipstream, we have no ties, official or unofficial, with Wikileaks.

The Philippines is particularly suited for a project such as PinoyLeaks, for the following reasons.

  1. There is a huge supply of leaks

The Philippines ranks towards the bottom of Transparency International's ranking of countries. It is, sadly, one of the most corrupt countries in the world. That means there is a lot of corruption that can be exposed.

  2. The legal environment hampers traditional journalism

Libel is a criminal offense in the Philippines, and truth is not a defense against defamation. As a result, journalists are often arrested and put behind bars just for doing their job.

  3. As many as 70 journalists have been killed since 1992

Investigative journalism is risky business in the Philippines.

  4. Monetary resources for investigative journalism are hard to come by

The Philippines is not a wealthy country, and newspapers often cannot fund lengthy investigations.

PinoyLeaks can be a game-changer in the Philippines because it allows information to be exposed safely, without risk to the informant. Moreover, no budget is required for investigations or payoffs for informants.

Please help PinoyLeaks play in a role in transforming the Philippines from a corrupt and impoverished third-world country into a modern nation-state.

Proudly Pinoy!

This is a welcome initiative which deserves the support of netizens and advocates of transparency in governance. Only the corrupt politicians and other crooks in government would block the success of PinoyLeaks. PinoyLeaks is another proof of the potential of technology to improve governance in society.
